Feedback Form
Thank you for taking the time to help me gather evidence for my Level 1 Club Coach Award with Pickleball Scotland.I'd be really grateful if you could take a couple of minutes to provide some feedback - please be honest, it helps me provide better coaching and develop.
Session Notes
A reset is a defensive shot used to try and disarm, slow-down and minimise an attack underway from your opponents.Main aims of a reset:
- neutralise attack
- reset point to give yourself opportunity to get back in to an attacking positionWe talked about the need to:
- have a soft grip
- be balanced
- have our body behind the ball
- being ready and not leaving our body open to attack if our paddle is down at our sidesWe discussed the importance of resets:
- Sometimes "doing less" is the best option. If someone is hitting a hard shot at us, we don't have to hit a big point winning shot back. We can reset and give ourself the chance to reset and get ourself back into a position where hitting an offensive shot is a more sensible choice.
- Hitting the wrong shot and putting it into the net or out, we've immediately lost the point. If we can reset, we've got another chance to win.
- Taking time to work our way back towards the kitchen, it might take more than one shot to do that.More generally, we talked about maintaining a ready position with our paddles up in front to defend the space in front of our bodies. We also discussed the need to be light enough on our feet to be able to react the ball and not becoming overly committed to staying in one spot. If we stay in one spot and reach we're more likely to pop a ball up or commit some other kind of error, making the next shot more difficult or losing the point. We talked about the importance of supporting our partners more generally in doubles, and the importance of thinking positively.Your partner doesn't think you purposefully made a mistake, especially in practice, you're there to learn. You don't need to say sorry.

Some of what I tell you comes from my own experience, some of it I learn through coaching programmes but a lot of useful stuff can be found online.I'm attaching links to some of the videos I watched to help me prepare for the session - you might see some of the drills we used here.
